When an idea has to work

Read the essayWhy early starts, training and the same structure every week are the opposite of boring.
A structure can outlive its purpose.
Training, work and study follow a plan I rarely renegotiate. Most of it is decided before the day begins.
A routine settles decisions in advance. When the small things are already decided, I can concentrate on the work and what comes next.
Training belongs in that structure. I don’t treat it as a reward for finished work, because it is what makes the work possible.
With every routine I want to know what it is meant to help me do.
Repetition only helps when it serves something I care about. A structure can outlive its purpose. Discipline, for me, includes noticing that and changing it.
